Seagulls win in wild weather against Essendon
In wild, wet and windy conditions Williamstown have won their first game for 2018 against Essendon at home on Saturday afternoon.
With an Essendon side boasting AFL regulars such as Patrick Ambrose, Matthew Leuenburger and Shaun McKernan the Seagulls kicked away and used the wind to their advantage in the last quarter.
The Seagulls lead by just one at three quarter time but goals to Meese, Dorgan, George and Wheeler helped seal a 32 point win.
A tight first half quarter with Shaun McKernan kicking the first two goals of the game before Jaylon Thorpe kicked a late goal to help steady the Seagulls.
The second quarter was where the Gulls started to gain some momentum. Thorpe kicked his second for the day before goals to Masters and Meese gave the team the lead at the half.
Weather was the main talking point of the third term with over 40 stoppages during the quarter and only the three goals kicked.
Christian Buykx-Smith provided the highlight of the day with a massive mark and goal in the final quarter.
Captain Adam Marcon went down with concussion in the second quarter and took no further part in the game.
Williamstown will play Werribee next week in round three at Werribee.

Essendon: 6.9. (45)
