Seagulls Development surge to top of the table

 

Williamstown's development team has climbed to the top of the Development League ladder after a nine-goal win over Sandringham yesterday.

 

The Seagulls led at every change in the 15.19 (109) to 8.7 (55) win, as they picked up win number five on the season.

 

Just like their previous clash with the Zebras a week earlier, the match was of a high-quality standard, particularly early, as both sides showed periods of dominance.

 

Williamstown led by a goal at the first change, but a six-goal to two second term broke the game wide open. And despite an inaccurate third term where they only managed seven behinds, the Seagulls were able to put the nail in the coffin with a five-goal to two final term.

 

Ed Carr was once again among the better performers on the ground, leading the younger brigade by example with his ferocious attack on the ball and ability to use it efficiently when in possession.

 

Key defender Daylan Kempster was a rock for the Seagulls back six, taking many crucial intercept marks and blanketing his key opponent all day. Youngster Fletcher Carroll proved to be damaging as well running from half-back and through the middle, even adding his name to the scoreboard with a goal.

 

Brayden Monk continued his push for senior selection after another impressive performance, kicking two goals and having a hand in many more, while Tom Wilkinson, Jake Owen and Tristan Davies booting eight goals between them, with the latter moving to the top of the Development League goal kicking list.

 

The Development side will now face Werribee at Burbank Oval on Sunday at 1.30pm, with a TAC Cup clash between the Western Jets and the Dandenong Stingrays being played beforehand as a curtain raiser.
