Development Gulls out to make history
Sunday's Development League Grand Final will take on even more meaning as Williamstown looks to claim the last ever premiership of the competition before it ceases at season's end.
After a rise that Lazarus would have been proud of, the Seagulls now have the opportunity to take home their fourth premiership in five years when they face Casey in Sunday's decider.
Williamstown were on the outside looking in for much of the second half of the year when it came to finals, but have won five of their past six outings, peaking at the perfect time of the year to shoot into premiership contention.
Their finals campaign started with an Elimination Final showdown against old foes Box Hill, who know only too well of the might of the Williamstown development team, having suffered three grand final losses to them between 2013-2015 (two of which were via a golden point).
After dispatching the Hawks by 22 points, they moved into their 17th straight (yes, straight) Preliminary Final or better against arch rivals Port Melbourne.
It was a stirring performance, turning around 112 & 52 point losses to the Borough earlier in the year to run away 28 point winners.
To bring home another premiership to Burbank Oval, the Seagulls will need to replicate last weekend's result against a Casey side that also beat them on both occasions during the home and away season.
But with the strongest team they've had at their disposal all season, Williamstown will go into Sunday's grand finale with plenty of momentum and more importantly, confidence.
A premiership would be a fitting way for Williamstown's Development team to sign off after such a period of dominance since 2001, and the Club is looking to make it a moment to remember by having every Seagulls supporter out in force to help get the boys over the line on Sunday.
The Development League Grand Final gets underway at 11.30am at Fortburn Stadium (North Port Oval) on Sunday.
