Saxton & Balshaw Stand With Us

Williamstown Football Club is delighted to announce the signing of another two girls for our VFLW team in Anna Saxton and Caitlyn Balshaw

Saxton, 31 is from Diamond Creek, where she has played over 100 games for the 'Creekers' and has been at the club for over 10 years after playing for Surrey Park for a season. Saxton played in the clubs 2012 premiership and says while that is something she will cherish forever she's excited for a new chapter in her footballing life.

"It’s going to be a surreal experience playing against girls I’ve played alongside for 10 years but, I am super excited to join a new club." Saxton said.

"I look forward to working with all the coaches as they seem very professional and knowledgeable. I strongly believe in Amy’s coaching philosophy. The vibe from the start has been something special."

"As a mature aged player, I want to lead by example by working hard and playing consistent tough footy. I also want to guide the younger and developing players."

Balshaw, 20, is from Deer Park and has been playing football since she was nine years old. Balshaw played as a junior and represented Vic Metro twice before moving to the St Kilda Sharks for two years. Caitlyn's grandad started coaching Deer Park so she moved back there in 2016 where she won the premiership."

"Being a part of Williamstown's first ever girls team is a fantastic honour." Balshaw said..

"Women's footy has grown at such incredible speed in the last few years that now some of the biggest football clubs in Victoria are getting behind us."

"We are being provided with quality training and playing facilities that 5-6 years ago I'd never thought we'd be able to use, it's brilliant."
