Seagulls share the points in a classic

A last quarter revival wasn't enough for Williamstown to win against Port Melbourne, with both sides having to settle for a draw after a nail-biting finish.

Down by 17 points at three-quarter time, the Seagulls lifted in the last, kicking the first four goals to take the lead in front of a stunned Adcon Stadium crowd.

From that point onwards the game went back and forth with the Seagulls holding onto a one-point lead with two minutes to remaining.

Unfortunately they couldn't stop Port Melbourne from scoring an important behind to tie the game up before the final siren.

The draw sees Williamstown retain the Johnson-Callahan Cup following their 10-point win against the Borough in Round 1.

There were a number of strong performers today in the 1907 heritage guernsey.

Of those was midfielder Liam Hunt who was best on field for the Seagulls following a superb 30-disposal performance.

It was arguably his best game in blue and gold having joined the club in pre-season.

Billy Myers also played a significant role across the half backline collecting 20 touches and having a physical presence around the ball.

Meanwhile, Nick Meese continued his dominance in the ruck with an impressive 53 hitouts.

The Seagulls had plenty of chances to hit the scoreboard throughout game, but inaccuracy resulting in 11 first-half behinds proved to be costly.

Unfortunately they couldn't get the four points to celebrate Willie Wheeler's 150th game but they will look to bounce back next Sunday afternoon.

The Seagulls will play Werribee at Avalon Airport Oval with the first bounce at 1:00pm.

SCORE:

Williamstown: 10.14.74

Port Melbourne: 10.14.74
