VFLW Seagulls set to take centre stage
The 2018 VFLW fixture has our Williamstown women’s team kicking off their first season with a round 1 away game against Collingwood, with our aligned TAC CUP Youth girls team the Western Jets, playing in the curtain raiser.
The VFLW season is made up of 16 rounds with 3 bye weekends, with the Seagulls will be hosting 6 home games at Williamstown. Click here to see the fixture.
Williamstown CEO Jason Reddick is excited by the prospects awaiting. “The 2018 VFLW fixture has provided our Club with some unique opportunities to celebrate women’s football in the west and align with partner clubs to provide Seagull members with plenty of entertainment and quality football action.
Our first home game in round 2 on Sunday 13th May against the Southern Saints is certainly one such occasion, which we will mark with a range of activities, including a President Lunch with key-note female presenters, half time grid games featuring local girls, a curtain raiser game featuring WRFL women teams, and of course our famous Waterline kids activity zone. We are hoping all Seagull members and the broader community with an interest in women’s sport, will get behind our team and make this a memorable day!
That game will be followed by three back to back home games against AFL Clubs Geelong, Richmond, and Casey (Melbourne), so our women will certainly get the opportunity to acclimatise to the Williamstown ground. The Club is working with the WRFL to fixture women curtain raiser games to be played before each of these three matches.”
Williamstown’s VFL and VFLW teams will also play double header home games on three occasions: Sun 3 June both teams play Casey Sun 1st July VFL v Collingwood, VFLW v Darebin Sat 21st July both teams play Footscray (Western Bulldogs)
Premiers Darebin have a host of AFLW stars in Daisy Pearce, Darcy Vescio and Katie Brennan, whilst NT Thunder feature have many players from the AFLW premiership team, Adelaide. Together with all the AFL Clubs featuring in the VFL, there will be plenty of AFLW talent on show each week in the VFLW competition."
