Seagulls open season against the Hawks  

Williamstown VFL suffered a loss in their season opening game on Sunday afternoon against Box Hill.

With the Hawks side boasting 17 AFL listed players the Hawks overran the Seagulls in the last quarter.

The Seagulls started the game strongly with club debutante Jaylon Thorpe kicking his first and our first goal for the season before Lachie Schutlz followed up soon after, before goals to Sam Dunell, Lachie George and Ben Cavarra setting up a three goal lead at the first break. 

In the second quarter Box Hill came at the Seagulls with goals to Ben Cavarra and Captain Adam Marcon gave the Seagulls a 10 point half time lead. 

The second half was a tight affair with Box Hill starting to gain some ascendancy before a Nick Meese goal helped settle the Seagulls but unfortunately the Hawks finished the game stronger.  

Several Seagulls impressed on debut with Jaylon Thorpe, Lachie George and Hayden Walters all looking likely up forward. Tom Schnerring and Nick Rodda also provided strong defence while under siege in the second half.  

Brayden Monk continued his strong form that he showed in the preseason while Jack Dorgan and Brett Bewley were also impressive. 

Lachie Schultz and Billy Myers both sustained injuries but returned to the game in the latter stages and should be fit to play next week. 

Williamstown will play Essendon next week in round two back in Williamstown.
