1907 Premiership team honoured as part of the Johnson-Callahan Cup

Williamstown will wear a replica 1907 premiership jumper against rival Port Melbourne on Sunday.

Supported by the Port of Melbourne in wearing the jumper, the 1907 team will forever hold importance as the club's first ever premiership team.

Captained by Edward (Ted) Alley, the Villagers as they were then known defeated West Melbourne by 18 points.

Having defeated Port Melbourne in the final round of the 1907 season, Alley was named captain just ahead of the finals series as the captain at the time Paddy Noonan was dropped on the eve of the finals due to his form in which he subsequently left the club.

The Johnson-Callahan Cup recognises the long-standing rivalry between Port Melbourne and Williamstown and was struck on the eve of the 2019 season to recognise the two respective club legends.

Thanks to Port of Melbourne for their support of the VFL's greatest rivalries who will clash for the 255th time this weekend.

(Port Melbourne representatives Greg Dermott, Jason Love & Frank Johnson jnr joined by Murray Newton - Port of Melbourne and Williamstown's Saade Ghazi & Kim Kershaw)
