Cula-Reid excited by 2020 prospects

VFLW senior coach Penny Cula-Reid says the side's first practice match against Richmond last Saturday was a small step towards a successful season.

The girls were able to restrict the Tigers to just two behinds in the third term after a slow start and booted three goals to one in the second half at Punt Road.

"I don’t feel that putting them in a mindset that winning is everything is the way we're going to be looking at it, I think it's going to be setting little goals - hitting those goals and then keeping these aims moving forward," Cula-Reid said post game.

"We're really excited about the prospects of the season, but moreso it's about building the momentum towards that next step and achieving the best we can."

Cula-Reid has ensured a big focus of pre-season has been centred around team camaraderie. And seeing a majority of the list in a Williamstown jumper on the weekend was a "fantastic" sight to see.

"I think it just emphasises that to be able to build a strong culture, and a winning culture, it's all about getting to know each other and bonding as a family," she said.

The club is still in selection process with the list yet to be finalised for 2020. The VFLW's next practice match will come against Geelong at Deakin Uni on Saturday, February 22.
