VFL List Departures

Williamstown Football Club has previously announced the departure 2015 premiership players Sam Dunell, Leigh Masters, Jack Charleston, Willie Wheeler and Nick Messe, all of whom provided great service to the Club and have forever etched their names in Williamstown history.

The Club would now like to sincerely thank the following players who have also moved on from the Club since the end of the 2019 VFL season.

After six seasons, a 2013 development league premiership and 77 VFL games, Jack Dorgan has decided to return to his junior Club Hoppers Crossing. Dorgan was a much-loved player and left no stone unturned, overcoming multiple knee injuries during his time with the Seagulls.

Oliver Tate will also head back to community football (Cheltenham) after having played his 100th VFL match in 2019 in which his state league career spanned 10 seasons with stints at Williamstown, North Ballarat and Claremont (WAFL).

Mitch Hibberd was taken with pick 10 by Essendon in the 2019 AFL Rookie Draft whilst Jhye Baddeley-Kelly has taken up the opportunity to join Coburg in pursuit of further VFL opportunities.

Jason Pongracic and Sam Martyn have headed on working holidays overseas within their own career paths in physiotherapy and engineering respectively, whilst work has forced Ben Kennedy (Montmorency) and Christian Buykx-Smith (Heidelberg) to return to community football, both unable to commit the time required to play VFL football.

Long-term injuries in 2019 to Tom Schnerring (Heidelberg), Lane Buckwell and Ben Connolly (Williamstown CYMS) will see them return to community football whilst Mitch Norton underwent post-season surgery and will mix his time between his junior Club Altona and overseas travel.

Other players to depart the Club include Josh Minogue (Heidelberg), Liam Carter (Melton), Hisham Kerbatieh, Sean Gregory (Werribee Districts) who are all returning to community football.

“On behalf of the Club, we thank all the departing players for their contributions to our Club. We wish every player the very best with their future footballing endeavours, along with their careers outside of the game. We welcome all our former Seagull players to remain connected to our Club into the future," GM-Football Stephen Soulsby said.

“In particular, we wish Mitch all the best in the lead up to the Round 1 of the AFL season,” Soulsby added.
