Charleston to lead Seagulls for Round 19 clash
Williamstown vice-captain Jack Charleston will lead the VFL team onto Downer Oval this Saturday with the absence of skipper Adam Marcon.
Charleston was elevated into vice captaincy this year after a strong season in the club's leadership group in 2018.
And the stakes are high for the currently-fourth Seagulls who can secure a top four finish if they topple Coburg at Downer Oval.
The side is coming off a bye week having defeated Essendon by 18 points in Round 17.
Ruckman Nick Meese is in line to make a welcomed return after recovering from injury he sustained against Collingwood in Round 15, while small forward Ben Kennedy will likely return after spending three weeks on the sidelines also.
Sam Martyn, Cooper Stephens, Nick Ebinger, Oliver Tate and Nick Fothergill are among the other inclusions to come into the squad, covering injuries to Marcon, Brayden Monk and Josh Pickess.
Max Philpot retains his spot in the side after debuting against the Bombers a fortnight ago.
With a top two finish in sights, a win for the Seagulls this week is crucial, trailing Essendon (2nd) by two points and Footscray (3rd) by percentage.
It will be the second time this season the two clubs have faced off - with the Seagulls victorious by 32 points in Round 7.
The Lions, currently 14th, will be looking to win their third match of the season.
It will be the second game of a double-header Saturday, with the VFLW side playing at 11:30am.
A reminder that Kids Superhero Day has been postponed to August 24.
