Team news: Grand Final

The squad is in for this Sunday's VFL grand final against Richmond at Ikon Park.

Williamstown was too strong for Essendon in last week's preliminary final, but will now need to defeat hot favourite Richmond to win its 17th VFA/VFL premiership.

Youngster Max Philpot is the only player from the win against the Bombers to miss out on the big dance, with Tom Mundy replacing him as the 23rd player.

Spearhead Nick Rodda has been named in the forward line alongside fellow talls Joel Ottavi and Jaylon Thorpe, while Sam McLarty, Sam Martyn and Daly Andrews are also in line for a Grand Final call-up.

The Seagulls broke a run of three consecutive prelim losses last Sunday, meaning it's the first time they've reached the final game of the year since their 2015 premiership win over Box Hill - a 54-point drubbing at Etihad Stadium.

Eight players remain from that day: Leigh Masters, Nick Meese, Willie Wheeler, Nick Sing, Adam Marcon, Billy Myers, Sam Dunell and Jack Charleston.

Sunday's big occasion becomes even more grand with the club to celebrate two milestones; Joel Tippett is set to take the field for his 100th VFL match, while Dunell will feature in Seagulls colours for the 100th time since crossing to the club in 2015.

The Seagulls will have one less day's preparation than the Tigers, who overran Port Melbourne in the opposing preliminary final last Saturday.

The two teams met back in Round 5 this year, with the Tigers prevailing by 51 points at Downer Oval.

On that day, midfielder Mitch Hibberd (29 disposals and seven tackles) and forward Dunell (23 and five) were superb.

The grand final, which begins at 2:15pm, will be televised live on Channel 7 and broadcasted via SEN 1116, Casey Radio and ABC Radio.

The club encourages all Seagulls fans to sit in the designated Seagulls supporter bay in the Pratt Stand. Williamstown merchandise will also be sold inside Gate 6.

The club also has several grand final packages available, including a return bus trip, grand final entry and half time hospitality. Click HERE for more details.

Don your blue and gold and cheer as loud as possible one last time in 2019!
