Williamstown Partner With Outside The Locker Room

Following the launch of the Player Wellbeing Program during the 2017 season, the Williamstown Football Club is pleased to announce it has partnered with Outside The Locker Room in delivering further education to players and staff on social and mental issues.

The Club will be the first VFL/VFLW Club to undertake the Outside The Locker Room program which was founded by ex-AFL/VFL player Jake Edwards in 2015 following his own personal battles with mental health.

Jake Edwards, Founder, Outside The Locker Room is excited about the newly formed partnership.

“Our program is about engaging players on education and support in relation to their daily challenges and to partner with Williamstown on this important issue will provide their players with the necessary tools to assist players in any issues they may face. We have been successfully delivering our program at the community level since 2015 and we are now working with moreelite Clubs given the challenges players face in balancing work/life and sport; for Williamstown to be the first VFL/VFLW is credit to their leadership in assisting their players off the field ” Edwards said.

Club CEO Jason Reddick sees the valuable relationship built with Outside The Locker Room to assist the Club

“Our Club is focused on providing the best environment for players to reach their full potential as both footballers and people. The ‘Outside The Locker Room’ program will provide our players with both a fantastic educational tool and support network in assisting them to work through any social or mental issues they may encounter. Having been involved at AFL/VFL level, Jake understands the challenges our players face, so his added experience in that context makes this program ideal for our purposes” said Reddick.
