Senior opportunities driving Condon this pre-season

Young Seagulls forward Tom Condon is determined to impress this pre-season as he eyes off a senior debut early in 2017.

After a year at Development level, the 19-year old is hoping that he can show his wares during the upcoming practice matches in a bid to win a 23rd man position within the senior lineup.

"My main focus for these practice matches would be to get through injury free and play at a consistent level which is perhaps what I didn't do at development level in 2016," says Condon.

"Hopefully I can look dangerous up forward and through the midfield and push for a senior berth as early as possible in the season."

"The disappointment of not playing any senior football last year has been a massive driving point through the pre-season to push harder during training sessions to show what I can bring to the table in 2017."

As many of his Seagulls teammates have concurred with, this year's pre-season seems tougher than ever, as the fitness staff look to have the entire playing list ready to fire on all cylinders come the club's Round 1, Easter Monday clash with Casey.

A new batch of exciting recruits has also helped drive the motivation and enthusiasm through the playing group.

"With this being my second pre-season, I have felt it to be harder than last due to the longer sessions and working at a higher intensity," says Condon.

"I think this is due to having senior players on the track like Adam Marcon pushing high standards so that as a club we can strive towards the same success we had in 2015."

However, for Condon individually, the 2017 pre-season has been about honing his craft not only as a creative forward, but also increasing his running capacity to be able to switch into the middle when required.

While always dangerous in front of goal at development level last year, efficiency in front of goal sometimes let Condon down, which is something he has worked hard on to rectify this year.

"The main part of my game that I've been focusing on this pre-season has been my goal kicking," says Condon.

"Last season I was kicking a fair few points so if I can turn those opportunities into goals this year it will not only give myself more success, but more importantly add to our team's success."
