Bridie Kennedy, the seasoned AFLW player, marked her return to the field for Williamstown in a thrilling encounter against the Casey Demons in Round 6 on Sunday. The clash, held at Casey Fields, concluded in a nail-biting draw, adding another draw to Williamstown’s 2024 season.

Kennedy’s absence from the game spanned nearly a year, during which she retired from AFLW after stints with both Sydney and Carlton. She took time off earlier this year to get married and begin her teaching career however, her passion for the game didn’t wane, leading her back to the field with renewed determination.

Kennedy’s return mirrored her departure, with Williamstown facing off against the Casey Demons, just like in her final game in Round 8 last season. She tallied six disposals and six tackles, capping it off with a crucial goal in the final quarter that put Williamstown ahead.

“It did hurt getting the draw in the end, but I just love putting on the jumper for this club,” said Kennedy. “Hopefully we can learn from the game and continue fighting in the weeks to come.”

Post-match, Kennedy praised captain Eliza Straford for her dedication and inspirational leadership throughout the year so far. “Her voice and her intent, she really leads by example,” Kennedy remarked.

Along with Straford, Kennedy will undoubtedly inject a wealth of experience into Williamstown’s line-up as they make their way through the middle of the season.
