‘2024: The Pilgrimage’: Behind Williamstown’s VFLW 2024 Season

November 27, 2024
2024: The Pilgrimage – the Club’s new documentary chronicling the 2024 season and finals campaign, reveals a newfound belief within Williamstown’s VFLW group.

Williamstown Football Club proudly presents 2024: The Pilgrimage, an exclusive short documentary, produced by Rebekah Vilardo, which homes in on the perspectives of those at its core.

Senior Coach, Liam Cavanagh, navigates the journey to Williamstown’s first VFLW minor premiership in just his second year at the helm.

Eliza Straford, the first-year skipper, fought to lift her teammates after her ACL injury in the first week of finals.

Williamstown warrior Erin Meade, nearing the end of her career, played in a finals win for the first time since her debut seven years ago and 2024 debutant Neve Crowley, got to experience the blue and gold colours her uncle, Troy West, once wore.

Guiding the year was a flag devised during pre-season – the emblem Cavanagh used to remind the team they were on a pilgrimage that had to be conquered.

“Everyone wrote on the flag what they wanted out of the year. Some just wanted to make the list and then others wanted the premiership. It was a symbol of what this year meant to us and a reminder to lean in,” said Straford. “The flag came to all games and trainings.”

Though the Seagulls 2024 journey didn’t end with a premiership, the documentary showcases the bonds the players built with one another and with the club’s 160 year history.

Whether inside the change rooms after a final or at the height of a mid-week training, viewers are invited to a behind-the-scenes look at the greatest season in Williamstown’s VFLW history so far – a season that promises to be a foundation for what’s to come.
