Seagull Sightings at Local Level – June 14 & 15

June 19, 2025
While our VFLW team secured their first-ever win over the Casey Demons, and our VFL side had a bye, there were plenty of Seagulls playing at local level. Big names Max Philpot and Chloe Bain returned from injury, while several development players impressed.

A look at seven performances by Williamstown FC players in local leagues over the weekend of June 14, 2025.

Max Philpot – PEGS Senior Men’s (VAFA Premier C)

After sustaining an ankle injury in the 2024 off-season and spending almost 35 weeks on the sidelines, Philpot made a welcome return for the PEGS Senior side last Saturday during Williamstown’s bye weekend. He was named among the side’s best, collecting 19 disposals – nine of them contested – along with four marks and 76 ranking points. It was a promising return to form, and we’re hopeful of seeing Philpot back in the blue and gold in the coming weeks.

Max Stobie – Collegians Football Club (VAFA Premier)

Stobie impressed in Collegians’ 34-point loss to Old Haileybury, finishing with 14 disposals, three marks, a goal, and a team-high five inside 50s. His drive and forward entries were key highlights, and he’ll be looking to back it up in next week’s clash against University Blues.

Ned Pendergast – Yarrawonga Football Club (Ovens & Murray Football League)

Named one of the best players on the ground for Yarrawonga, Pendergast had a strong showing in Yarrawonga’s 23-point victory over Wodonga. Pendergast racked up 16 disposals (14 kicks), four inside 50s, a game-high 10 marks (three contested) and 98 ranking points. It was a good win for Yarrawonga, having lost the previous four games. We hope to see Pendergast maintain his momentum as Yarrawonga aims to continue their winning form against Albury this weekend.

Chloe Bain – West Brunswick (VAFA Premier Women’s)

Chloe Bain made her long-awaited return from injury (foot), pulling on the boots for West Brunswick in her first game of the year. Lining up alongside fellow Seagull Bronte Ashworth, Bain helped the Magpies hold off a late surge from Kew—home to Williamstown teammates Eloise Burdett-Moore and Georgia Wyett. In a nail-biter, West Brunswick edged out Kew 5.6 (36) to 5.3 (33). Bain was influential across half-back, switching play with confidence, covering ground, and taking a strong pack mark late in the game. Unlucky not to feature in the best six, her return was a standout this week.

Melina Ciavarella, Zoe Attard & Ella Tyson – Williamstown CYMS  (VAFA Premier Women’s)

Despite a tough 41-point loss to Caulfield Grammarians, Williamstown CYMS had plenty to take away—especially from Seagulls Melina Ciavarella, Zoe Attard, and Ella Tyson. Ciavarella was named in the best, showing hunger at the contest with strong tackling, spoiling, and voice around the ground. Attard, also among the best, brought relentless pressure with over 10 tackles and possessions. She covered plenty of ground, though much of her work went unrewarded against strong opposition. Tyson played out on the wing, layed four tackles but is eyeing improvements in her tackling technique.
