For Williamstown forward Lachlan Gollant, sitting on the sidelines for much of the first half of the season hasn’t been easy.
The 23-year-old, who played 16 AFL games and kicked 13 goals for Adelaide, has already missed eight VFL games this year—but made a strong return in Saturday’s win over Werribee at DSV Stadium.
It was Gollant’s third outing in the blue and gold — two of which have come against Werribee — after making his Club debut in Round 5 at Avalon Airport Oval, before serving a suspension that commenced the week of Round 7.
Back in the line-up and eager to contribute, Gollant finished with 10 disposals, 8 kicks, 3 goals, and was named among Williamstown’s best six.
Gollant’s return was made even more special as he got to share the occasion with teammates Finn O’Dwyer and Toby Triffett, who each celebrated their 50th game in Williamstown colours.
VFL Senior Coach Justin Plapp was pleased to finally have Gollant back on the field.
“Lachie trained at a really high intensity during his suspension block, and he’s come back into the team in good condition,” Plapp told Williamstown Media post-match on Saturday.
“He’s an elite forward in this competition and someone we’ve been really keen to get back into the side.
“He played a role today that even saw him go into the ruck at times, and to finish with three goals, I thought it was a pretty strong return. We’re looking forward to seeing more from him as the season goes on.”
