Seagull Sightings at Local Level – August 2 & 3

August 6, 2025
While both our VFL and VFLW sides fell narrowly to Collingwood, several Seagulls once again showcased their talent at local level. Luke Scicchitano and Mia Giannopoulos led the charge, with plenty of others also delivering strong performances across local competitions over the weekend.

A look at six performances by Williamstown FC players in local leagues over the weekend of the 2nd of August.

Luke Scicchitano & Jack Noonan – Deer Park Football Club (EDFL Premier Division)

Luke Scicchitano and Jack Noonan both impressed in Deer Park’s dominant 127-point win over East Keilor on the weekend. After making his VFL debut last round, Scicchitano returned to local level and was among the best for Deer Park. He collected 27 disposals (15 contested) at 70% efficiency, while also adding 7 clearances, 8 inside 50s and 7 tackles, finishing on 145 ranking points. Teammate Jack Noonan responded strongly after a quieter outing last week, finishing with 21 touches, 9 marks, a goal, 4 inside 50s and 114 ranking points. The pair’s contributions helped set the tone in Deer Park’s massive win, and with the side sitting 8th on the ladder they’ll be looking to maintain this form to push for a finals berth.

Hamish Murphy – North Heidelberg Football Club (NFNL Division 1)

Hamish Murphy produced a great performance in North Heidelberg’s 42-point win over West Preston-Lakeside. Murphy was efficient with his 22 disposals, going at 86%, while also taking 8 marks, driving the ball forward with 5 inside 50s and providing defensive support with 5 rebound 50s. His efforts earned him a season-high 134 ranking points, helping North Heidelberg continue their push for finals as they hold onto 6th spot on the ladder.

Mia Giannopoulos – Old Yarra Cobras Football Club (VAFA Premier B Women’s)

Mia Giannopoulos played an important role in Old Yarra Cobras’ 50-point win over Melbourne Uni. Displaying the Seagulls values, she supported and communicated well with her teammates. Playing through the midfield, Giannopoulos was clean with her possessions and consistently kept the ball moving forward. With her side sitting 8th on the ladder, they’ll need to secure wins from their remaining matches to break into the top six.

Yasmin Welsford – Strathmore Football Club (EDFL Women’s Division 1)

Despite battling illness during the week, Yasmin Welsford contributed strongly to Strathmore’s dominant 93-point shutout win over Tullamarine. She upheld the Seagulls values, offering great support and encouragement to her teammates throughout the match. With the ball spending most of the game in Strathmore’s forward half, Welsford had fewer defensive opportunities but stood tall whenever called upon. Strathmore remains undefeated on top of the ladder with an impressive 14-0 record.

Brittney Gray – Oak Park Football Club (EDFL Women’s Premier Division)

Brittney Gray played a key role in Oak Park’s 72-point win over Keilor, helping the side execute their game plan effectively through the midfield. She maintained a strong and focused mindset and contributed to high team communication throughout the match. Oak Park’s handball chains flowed exceptionally well, creating plenty of opportunities moving forward. The team sits second on the ladder, locked in a tight race with Aberfeldie and Hillside for top spot.
