McLaughlin added another four goals in Sunday’s 21-point win over Richmond at DSV Stadium, taking his season tally to 67 majors from 21 rounds.

His haul was enough to comfortably secure the honour, finishing 13 goals clear of Coburg’s Mitch Podhajski (54).

It marks the second time McLaughlin has won the award, after he shared it in 2023 with then-Gold Coast Suns teammate Chris Burgess, both kicking 51 goals in their premiership year.

Two years on, the Seagulls forward has surpassed that mark by 16 goals to etch his name into Williamstown history.

Matthew Little was Williamstown’s last recipient of the award for kicking 80 goals in 2010 – a mark that no player has surpassed in the 15 years since.

Despite finishing a dozen shy of Little’s tally, McLaughlin becomes the first player since 2004 to win the Frosty Miller Medal at two different clubs.

Across the 2025 season, McLaughlin produced several standout performances, including two seven-goal hauls and five occasions where he kicked five.

His best came in Round 9 against Carlton, when he kicked 7.5 to contribute 47 of the Seagulls’ 74 points.

Speaking on VFL Rewind last night, McLaughlin said his focus this year had been on enjoying his football.

“The medal chase became a bit of a distraction at times because everyone loves reminding you of the tally. So, when it looked like it might be me, it was nice not to feel any external pressure and just be locked in on winning the game.”

The 27-year-old said his move to Williamstown was about fully embracing the standalone club culture.

“I was keen to get to a standalone club, really embrace the culture, and play with the same bloke’s week in and week out. That’s what attracted me to Williamstown, as well as the history of the club, being a powerhouse for so long. After winning a flag with the Suns, I really wanted a repeat. Unfortunately, we couldn’t do it last year, but I’m hopeful we can this year.”

While the individual recognition caps off a dominant season, McLaughlin knows the job is far from done as the Seagulls set their sights on a run through to September.

“That was the message for (last) week – go out and play our way. No more excuses, just get it done. And we did. So now, bring on Collingwood this week.”

Williamstown will begin their finals campaign this Sunday against Collingwood at Victoria Park, with the first bounce locked in for 2.05pm.
