A look at four performances by WFC VFL listed players in local leagues over the weekend of the 16th of August.
Hamish Morrison – Airport West Football Club (EDFL Premier Division)
Hamish Morrison was again a key figure in Airport West’s 33-point win over Pascoe Vale, keeping their finals hopes alive. He gathered 25 disposals at a season-high matching 88% efficiency, along with 7 marks, 9 tackles and 130 ranking points in a strong two-way performance. Sitting just outside the top five, Airport West must defeat Deer Park this weekend and hope Essendon Doutta Stars fall to Keilor to secure a finals berth. Morrison’s form looms as crucial in that push.
Lucas Impey – Darley Football Netball Club (Ballarat Football Netball League)
Lucas Impey dominated the ruck in Darley’s two-goal win over East Point, giving his side first use all day. He finished with a commanding 52 hitouts to 29, while also contributing around the ground with 14 disposals, 4 marks and 5 tackles. Impey’s efforts saw him register 110 ranking points, underlining his influence in a hard-fought contest. His ability to combine strong ruck craft with impact at ground level continues to be a major strength for ladder-leading Darley.
Hamish Murphy – North Heidelberg Football Club (NFNL Division 1)
Hamish Murphy contributed solidly to North Heidelberg’s 55-point victory over Eltham, providing stability across the back half. He collected 19 disposals, took 6 marks, and drove the ball out of defence with 6 rebound 50s. He finished with 73 ranking points. The Bulldogs now face a must-win clash against Banyule in the final round, while also relying on Montmorency to fall to West Preston-Lakeside, if they’re to keep their finals hopes alive.
Max Philpot – PEGS Senior Men’s (VAFA Premier C)
We missed it last week, but Max Philpot delivered possibly the biggest performance of any Seagull Sightings player this season on Saturday 9 August. In PEGS’ 69-point win over Parkside, Philpot amassed a game and season-high 44 disposals (21 contested), along with 9 marks, 8 clearances, 8 inside 50s, 5 tackles and an incredible 193 ranking points. It was a monster display that deserved recognition, and a clear sign he is pushing for selection at VFL level.
