Vale Anthony Walsh

September 10, 2025
The Williamstown Football Club is saddened to learn of the passing on August 26 of former player, Anthony James 'Tony' Walsh, at the age of 65.

Tony arrived at Williamstown in 1976 after playing with Kingsville YMCA and Wembley Park. He then progressed through the Seagulls’ Thirds and Seconds before making his Senior debut in 1978. Tony went on to play 21 Senior games and kick 20 goals in the #45 jumper up until the end of the 1981 season under the coaching of John ‘Sticks’ Fanning and then Merv Hobbs.

A true Western suburbs boy, Tony grew up in Kingsville and was an electroplater at the Williamstown Naval Dockyards and was a very talented sportsman at both football and cricket. Tony was described as a ‘mad’ Collingwood supporter (thanks to Tony’s former Williamstown teammate, Jeff Ind, for much of this detail).

Tony’s funeral is to held on Thursday, September 11, 2025 from 10:30AM – 11:30AM at St Margaret Mary’s Catholic Church, Corner Reed and Arras Streets, Spotswood, to be followed by a private cremation.

The Williamstown Football Club extends sincere condolences to the extended Walsh family.

RIP, Tony.
