Two Seagulls set to soar again

October 13, 2025
The Williamstown Football Club is pleased to announce that midfielder Toby Triffett and defender Joel Fitzgerald have recommitted to the Club for the 2026 VFL season.

In a decision that will excite supporters – and the pair themselves as close teammates – the re-signings will see numbers 7 and 8 donned by the same names until at least the end of the 2026 season.

Having joined from Brisbane Lions’ VFL side in 2023, Triffett has become a well-known face around the Club.

The hard-working midfielder featured in all 20 matches in 2025, averaging 20.7 disposals per game.

Stepping it up in the Seagulls’ two finals appearances, Triffett finished his 2025 campaign ranked fourth in the league for tackles (6.1 per game) and sixth for handballs (12.9 per game).

This season also marked Triffett’s first as a deputy leader within Williamstown’s VFL leadership group, alongside fellow deputy Brodie McLaughlin.

Fitzgerald also played all 20 games in 2025, averaging 7.8 marks per outing – placing him third in the competition with 156 total marks, just behind teammate and leading marker Luke Parks.

The defender’s best performance came in Round 19 against Collingwood at DSV Stadium, where he racked up a season-high 34 disposals.

Recruited from Essendon’s VFL program in 2024, Fitzgerald reached 50 VFL games at the start of the 2025 season – 39 of those now in the blue and gold.

The 22-year-old has shown the Williamstown crowd tremendous growth and determination since his debut, and supporters will now await what he produces in his third Seagull season.
