Col passed away on December 30th, in Newcastle NSW at the age of 93.
After playing his early football with Emerald and then Williamstown Methodists, Col came to the Seagulls after playing 6 senior games with South Melbourne in 1957.
Col then played in our 1958 premiership victory over Moorabbin at St Kilda’s Junction Oval in the replay of the one and only drawn grand final in VFA history, and in the win the following year against Coburg at the same venue.
Col played full-back in both games.
In his four seasons with Williamstown from 1958-61, Col played 55 games in his number 10 guernsey.
Col was awarded the best first-year player trophy by the Club in 1958 and only retired from the playing field during 1961 due to injury at the age of 29.
Col then served the Club as a committeeman from May 1961 until the end of the 1968 season, also serving as chairman of selectors.
Col received life membership of the Club in 1966.
From everyone at the Williamstown Football Club, we extend our sincere condolences to Val, Lia and the extended Colquhoun family.
RIP, Col.
