Forward Teagan Brett celebrated a major milestone, running out for her 50th game in Williamstown colours.
A tight opening term saw both sides locked in a scrappy, constant pressure, forcing messy play early.
Williamstown were the first to hit the scoreboard but only managed a minor.
The Seagulls’ relentless pressure soon turned the momentum, forcing turnovers across the ground. A clever passage of play from Mia Zielenski sent the ball deep inside 50, where Ellen Williamson finished confidently to slot the first goal of the match.
A quick kick out of the goal square was rushed through for a behind after excellent ruck work from Neve Crowley.
Repeat stoppages closed out the first quarter, but sharp ball movement from the Seagulls opened it up, with quick hands from Emily Eaves setting up a running shot from Williamson for her second of the day.
Celebrating appropriately, Williamson’s goal gave the Seagulls momentum and a boost, heading into the first break, taking an 11-point lead.
The second quarter consisted of limited scoring from both clubs, as Port only managed a point, while Williamstown scored no points for the quarter.
The Seagulls had intentions of heading into the forward 50 but struggled to find a clear target.
Meanwhile, Port controlled most of the play this quarter, but they were unable to capitalise on their opportunities.
Williamstown led by 10 points at halftime.
The Seagulls responded early in the third, rebounding cleanly through a sharp link-up clearance from Emily Eaves, before slotting a brilliant goal inside the first 40 seconds of the half.
The Seagulls had all the momentum in the third quarter, with end-to-end play, giving the forwards first use. As Zielinski finishes off a great team goal to take the lead by up to 23 points.
Soon after, Zielinski and Lulu Hung all but sealed the game as they both kicked goals within the third quarter.
Captain Eliza Stratford added her name to the scoreboard, kicking a goal, extending the lead by 42 points, leading into the final quarter.
No goals were scored in the last term, yet the Seagulls’ defensive pressure ensured they held on for victory.
Williamstown’s defence held up well, limiting Port to no goals scored for the game.
Naomi Ferres was very effective in this game, collecting 27 disposals (13 contested), 4 tackles and 2 clearances.
Williams and Zielenski also provided a spark as both players kicked two goals with limited disposals of the ball; however created a major impact on the game.
Williamstown will look to their next game, against Sandringham on Saturday at DSV Stadium, aiming to get their third consecutive win.
