Baker joins the Seagulls with an extensive coaching background spanning elite development, talent pathways and senior football, including roles with Carlton and Hawthorn at AFL level.
Most recently, Baker has worked with the Carlton Football Club as an AFL Development Coach, a position he began in 2021, and during that time founded the Carlton College of Sport Football Development Program.
Prior to joining Carlton, Baker spent two seasons as a Development Coach with Hawthorn, working within Alastair Clarkson’s coaching panel after six years at the helm of the Western Jets in the TAC Cup, now the Coates Talent League.
During his time with the Jets, Baker led the program to three finals campaigns and recorded 41 wins across his six seasons, with numerous players he coached progressing into AFL careers.
Baker’s coaching journey is complemented by an extensive background in education, having spent more than a decade working in teaching alongside his football career. He is also an accredited AFL Level 3 coach.
His coaching experience extends across VFL, country, suburban and underage football, following a 17-year playing career across those levels.
Across his coaching career, Baker has developed a reputation for building strong relationships, developing players and creating environments centred around communication and growth.
Williamstown Football Club CEO Ash Baker said Baker’s experience across talent development and AFL environments would provide a strong foundation for the Club’s VFL program.
“Torin brings an outstanding breadth of experience across football, from developing young players through the talent pathway to working within AFL environments,” Baker said.
“His experience at Hawthorn and Carlton, combined with his six years leading the Western Jets, gives him a strong understanding of player development and what it takes to prepare players for the next level.
“We’re excited to have Torin lead our VFL program and look forward to seeing the impact he can make across our playing group and broader football program.”
Baker will officially commence his role in November ahead of the VFL pre-season, with his appointment marking the next chapter of his coaching career at Point Gellibrand.
