Brett and Russell locked in as Williamstown lays VFLW foundations

January 29, 2026
Williamstown Football Club has taken another important step in shaping its VFLW program, securing the re-signings of forward Teagan Brett and ruck Krystal Russell as the Club enters a new chapter under Senior Coach Paul Groves.

As the VFLW competition prepares for a revised season start in May, retaining experienced contributors has been a key focus for the Seagulls, with Brett and Russell providing valuable continuity as the program defines its identity and strengths.

Brett, 24, has continued her upward trajectory since making her VFLW debut in 2021, developing into a dependable forward option within Williamstown’s structure.

The 2025 season proved her most consistent yet, playing 16 matches, kicking seven goals and earning two best-on-ground performances.

Russell’s recommitment adds further stability to the Seagulls’ midfield and ruck stocks, with the former Essendon-listed tall bringing physical presence and competitiveness around the contest.

Making her VFLW debut in 2023, Russell arrived at Williamstown with strong pathway experience through Vic Metro and the Western Jets.

During the 2025 campaign, Russell featured in seven matches, earning a best player performance and kicking her first goal in blue and gold.

Securing Brett and Russell marks another step toward list finalisation as the Seagulls progress through pre-season ahead of the Women’s Trial Day on February 21 at Crofts Reserve.
