Round 9, Williamstown vs Carlton
16th May 2024
Erin Meade came to the club in 2018 to play in the first Williamstown VFLW team. Remarkably, she is the only player remaining from that inaugural season.
In her debut season, Meade’s hard work earned her the title of Most Improved Player. She then finished fourth in the 2021 Club Best and Fairest and was awarded the Coach’s Trophy the same year.
Meade also captained the VFLW side from 2021 to 2023 but back-to-back injuries kept her away from the competition. The half-back returned to the field in Round 1 of the 2024 season where she played her first winning VFLW game for 728 days. Since then, she has played an integral part in the team’s success so far this year.
Beyond her on-field role, Erin also serves as the Head of Development for the VFLW side, playing a crucial role in growing the next generation of talent. Her dual role as both mentor and jumper #19 highlights her commitment to the club and its future.
Now, six years since starting her VFLW career, she’s getting ready to play her 50th VFLW game in the blue and gold, joining only three other Williamstown VFLW players to reach 50 games.
‘Erin being the only player remaining from our inaugural VFLW side is in itself a wonderful achievement she should be proud of,’ said Williamstown CEO Ashley Baker.
‘Erin’s resilience and ability to overcome adversity is why she has captained the side and is seen as one of the great leaders of our football club. I am incredibly proud of Erin’s achievements and wish her the best of luck for Saturday and the remainder of season 2024.’
This Saturday 18th May marks this significant milestone for Meade when the Seagulls battle the Blues at DSV Stadium at 10.00am.
