Henderson announces retirement after seven years with Williamstown

February 14, 2025

After seven years and 54 games in the blue and gold, the tough decision was made for our number 36, Darby Henderson, to medically retire from VFL footy.

Joining the club in 2018, Darby quickly built a reputation as a hard-working, goal-kicking utility player with a fearless attack on the ball.

The 25 year old played nine games in season 2024, in which he averaged 13 disposals and kicked seven goals. He reached his 50th Williamstown game in Round 11 against Southport but did not return to the side after Round 15 due to concussion advice.

At season’s end, Darby was recognised with the Kelly Brent Memorial Award from our Medical Team.

“I walked in from school as a boy and have definitely left a man,” Henderson said.

“I’m going to miss it so much but it’s time to head to the next thing.”
