O’Dwyer sticks with Seagulls

October 2, 2025
Williamstown co-captain Finn O'Dwyer will enter a fifth season at the Club, having put pen to paper on a fresh contract for 2026.

The 25-year-old VFL defender played a key role in Williamstown’s backline this season, regularly matching up on dangerous opposition forwards.

Across his 14 games, O’Dwyer averaged 18 disposals, 14 kicks and eight marks, ranking fifth at the Club for marks.

One of his standout performances came in Round 19 against Collingwood, where he amassed 31 disposals, 27 kicks and 10 marks in Williamstown’s first of two wins over the Magpies for the year.

O’Dwyer was appointed co-captain alongside Cameron Polson in March, building on his leadership development after serving as deputy vice-captain in 2024.

Polson, a former Carlton draftee like O’Dwyer, approached his teammate in pre-season to suggest a joint leadership model, noting the different but complementary strengths they could bring to the role.

Although sidelined by injury on two occasions in 2025, O’Dwyer still finished inside the top 10 of the Gerry Callahan Medal count, polling six votes in each of Williamstown’s final three games to place seventh overall.

It followed on from his runner-up finish in 2023, where he tied with now-Fremantle Docker Oscar McDonald.

Williamstown GM of Football Operations, Ash Collins, said securing O’Dwyer for 2025 is an important step forward.

“Finn has thrived since being called up to co-captain the VFL program,” Collins said.

“His leadership and guidance on and off the field are first class. He drives high standards, helps develop those around him and plays a significant role in the growth of our football.”
