The 27-year-old, who has never pulled on another VFL guernsey, will continue to epitomise the Seagull’s strong midfield with a 2026 contract.
Across nine seasons and 78 VFL games, Philpot has become one of Williamstown’s most dependable ball-winners, consistently applying pressure around the contest.
After reaching his 50-games milestone in 2024, Philpot’s 2025 campaign was briefly interrupted by a broken ankle sustained in the off-season.
He made a strong return in Round 16 against the Northern Bullants, going on to feature in four matches to close out the season.
In Round 17 against Box Hill – his second game back – Philpot impressed with 12 disposals, 6 kicks, 4 marks, 6 hitouts, 5 tackles and a goal, showcasing his trademark determination.
As part of his rehab, Philpot represented PEGS Senior Men’s team in the VAFA, where he played six games, kicked 9 goals and was named Best Player on four occasions.
Williamstown GM of Football Operations, Ash Collins, said that Philpot’s perseverance through injury highlights the kind of dedication the club is built on.
“Max is the kind of player every club wants,” Collins said.
“His resilience through injury this year and his decade-long loyalty to Williamstown speaks volumes about his character.
“He works incredibly hard, both at training and in games, and he’s a genuine player who lifts those around him.”
Standing at 189cm and set to don the number 19 again, Philpot’s milestone tenth season promises a proud chapter for both him and Seagulls fans.
