Preuss becomes the first of Williamstown’s recruits for the year, joining a standalone VFL club after time with three AFL sides.
The 207cm ruck began his AFL career with North Melbourne, being second-in-line to All-Australian Todd Goldstein.
After eight AFL games with the Roos, he moved to Melbourne, where he spent two seasons learning from premiership captain Max Gawn and featured 10 times in the red and blue.
Preuss then joined GWS in 2020, but injuries restricted his opportunities, limiting him to 10 AFL games – the last of which came in 2022.
Taking a step back from AFL and VFL altogether, he spent this year with the Yarragon Panthers in the Ellinbank & District Football League, where he rediscovered consistent football – playing 16 games and kicking 37 goals.
Williamstown GM of Football Operations, Ash Collins, said the addition of Preuss has brought plenty of excitement to the Club during this period of player movement.
“We’ve seen through his AFL experience that Braydon is a very capable ruckman and we’re delighted to have him join us,” Collins said.
“He has a hunger to return to high-level football and we believe Williamstown offers the ideal environment to relaunch his career.
“Braydon will step into the role vacated by retiring ruckman Tom Downie and become a player our younger group can look up to. We can’t wait to see him get to work in the blue and gold.”
