A look at five performances by Williamstown FC players in local leagues over the weekend of the 26th of July.
Ben Kennedy – Yarrawonga Football Club (Ovens and Murray Seniors Football League)
Ben Kennedy continued his strong form for Yarrawonga despite their 23-point loss to Wodonga. Named in the best players, Kennedy was a key contributor up forward, slotting four goals from his 14 disposals, including nine contested possessions. He also took seven marks and finished with 82 ranking points. With Yarrawonga sitting eighth on the ladder (out of 10 teams), they’ll be looking to build some momentum in the coming weeks to push for finals and keep their hopes of another grand final appearance alive.
Lucas Impey – Darley Football Netball Club (BFNL Seniors)
Making his first appearance in Seagull Sightings, Lucas Impey put in a strong showing in Darley’s dominant 123-point win over Lake Wendouree. Locked in a tough ruck battle all day, Impey came out on top, winning the hitouts 52 to 43 against his opponent. He also worked hard all around the ground by collecting 11 disposals, laying a game-high seven tackles and adding four clearances on his way to 116 ranking points. Darley remains firmly on top of the ladder with four games to play in the home-and-away season.
Hamish Morrison – Airport West Football Club (EDFL Premier Division)
Hamish Morrison was influential in Airport West’s 25-point win over Maribyrnong Park. He gathered 30 disposals, pulled down nine marks, laid five tackles, and drove the ball out of defence with six rebound 50s. He finished with 137 ranking points (3rd highest for his team). With Airport West currently sitting seventh on the ladder, Morrison’s impact will be crucial as they look to maintain their winning form and lock in a finals berth.
Robyn Randell – Fitzroy Football Club (VAFA Premier Division)
In her return from injury, Robyn Randell featured in Fitzroy’s 35–13 loss to West Brunswick. She kicked her team’s only goal in the final quarter and made an impact across all four terms with consistent spoils, strong tackles, and smart positioning. Robyn also took some solid marks and made composed decisions under pressure. Heading into next week, demanding the ball more frequently will help her influence on the ground grow further.
Lori Stepnell – Redan Football Netball Club (BFLW Women)
Lori Stepnell played a key role in Redan’s 55–24 win over Darley, helping her side secure top spot on the ladder and a week off heading into finals. Composed and daring in wet conditions, she took several intercept marks and wasn’t afraid to take risks by switching the play. Her hunger for the win was evident, and she remained dangerous with ball in hand. If Lori can lift her voice on-field in the coming weeks, she’ll become an even more formidable presence. Best of luck to her and the Redan squad for their finals campaign.
