Skipper Straford will continue to lead the blue and gold after another strong season, reaffirming her place as one of the key figures in Williamstown’s VFLW program.
The experienced forward has continued to set the standard for the Seagulls in 2026, averaging 9.3 disposals per game and kicking five goals across the season.
Her ability to impact the game without the ball has also remained a defining feature of her football, highlighted by a season-high 12 tackles against North Melbourne in Round 14.
Now 28, Straford has played 86 club games and kicked 46 goals, establishing herself as one of the most respected leaders within Williamstown’s VFLW program.
Originally recruited from the Eastern Devils, Straford’s resilience, professionalism and ability to unite the playing group have made her a cornerstone of the Seagulls’ program.
Her recommitment provides valuable continuity for Williamstown as the Club looks towards 2027, with Straford set to continue guiding an emerging group while helping drive the standards of the VFLW program.
GM Football Josh Rhodes welcomed Stratford’s recommitment, highlighting the captain’s leadership and the influence she continues to have both on and off the field.
“Lize is as much a part of the fabric of Williamstown as Speccie,” Rhodes said.
“She embodies what it means to be a leader and has championed the VFLW program with tenacity and grit. To see a player of her calibre not just return to football from a serious knee injury, but return well, has been a show of her character. We’re very excited for Lize to continue leading from the front in 2027.”
Straford joins vice-captain Emily Eaves in recommitting for 2027, providing valuable leadership and experience as the Seagulls continue to build for the season ahead.
