Saturday night football delivered a commanding win by the Seagulls at DSV Stadium, effectively resulting in Geelong recording their lowest score of the season.

The Seagulls won the first clearance of the match, with ruck Cat O’Bryan tapping it to the advantage of midfielder Emily Eaves who sent it long into the Seagulls forward 50.

Inside of the first minute, Williamstown hit first with a goal from Georgia Howes, who marked a quick kick from the middle, leading to her first goal as a Seagull.

Williamstown did all the attacking and were able to move the ball forward, with their defence in control.

Too late goals from forwards Teagan Brett and Molly Simpson created separation from the Cats, going up 3.2 as the Seagull defenders stood up limiting Geelong to 1.1 at the first break.

Busting through the pack with class, Eaves slotted Williamstown’s fourth goal giving her side a strong start to the second quarter with another score within the opening minutes.

The Seagulls moved the ball with pace and used the full ground to their advantage, hitting up 1v1 contests.

The Williamstown defenders kept their feet and created contests all over the ground, limiting Geelong to no goals kicked in the second quarter.

The third quarter scoring slowed as the Seagulls managed to only score 1 goal, however, the Seagulls’ defence held up, winning the contested ball in the back half. Defenders Jemima Wrigley and Laura Blue stood up in the contest.

Leading the rebound 50s 24-9, Williamstown converted through quarterback Sharnie Whiting, pressing the ball forward.

Driving it long, Neve Crowley marked the ball before, passing it onto Eaves who streamed into the forward 50, pushing off her opponent, before bouncing the ball through the goals, kicking her second goal of the game.

With a convincing lead entering the fourth quarter, Williamstown’s pressure did not slow down.

The Seagulls forward pressure became too much for Geelong, resulting in Williamstown pulling away, kicking the last four goals of the game to seal the win.

The Seagulls domination started in the midfield, as they won the hit outs 61-24 as well as the clearances 40-33.

Doing it all for Williamstown was Emily Eaves who kicked 2 goals, collected 15 disposals, 9 tackles, 4 clearances and 6 Inside 50’s.

Cat O’Bryan single handedly dominated in the ruck, gathering 15 disposals, 4 clearances and a massive 43 hit outs.

Defender Laura Blue, played a key reason for the prevailing win, racking up 14 disposals, 4 tackles, 11 intercept possessions and 4 inside 50’s.

All players played their role, as Geelong never lead once in the game.

Williamstown will now focus on their next game on Sunday against Port Melbourne at DSV Stadium, hoping to continue their winning streak on home soil.
