Williamstown will unveil four key inclusions for its Anzac Day clash against reigning premiers Werribee, headlined by the highly anticipated debut of Lachlan Gollant and the return of co-captains Cameron Polson and Finn O’Dwyer.
After a disappointing 51-point defeat to Coburg on Good Friday, the Seagulls have responded with changes designed to inject leadership and experience.
With Aidan Bonar sidelined by injury, first-year players Hamish Morrison, Hamish Murphy and Ned Pendergast have made way, as the club opts for seasoned players to combat the reigning champs on a short six-day turnaround.
Leading the inclusions is Gollant, who arrives at Williamstown after an impressive 2024 campaign with the Adelaide Crows, kicking 13 goals across 16 games.
Having featured in the Seagulls’ second and third pre-season hit-outs, Gollant is now primed for his first official outing in the VFL for Williamstown, filling the void left by the injured Blake Coleman.
Equally significant is the return of skippers O’Dwyer and Polson to bolster the backline. Both have had disrupted starts to the season due to injury, but will be crucial in stabilising a defensive unit that struggled against Coburg.
Co-captains, who haven’t taken the field since the season opener, bring not only on-field versatility but vital leadership as the group aims to bounce back against one of the competition’s strongest standalone sides.
Polson and O’Dwyer will be joined by Zac Pritchard, another important defensive piece who has overcome early season setbacks to return in time for the the proud tradition between the two clubs.
