VFL Team Selection: Seagulls name side for Wildcard Final against Carlton

August 21, 2026

By Mietta Williams, Williamstown Media

The Seagulls have named their side for the opening weekend of the 2026 VFL Finals Series, with Williamstown set to host Carlton in a Wildcard Final at DSV Stadium on Saturday.

Williamstown secured its place in the finals after a commanding 42-point victory over Frankston in the final home-and-away round, jumping to seventh on the VFL ladder and booking a home Wildcard Final against Carlton.

The Seagulls will face Carlton for the second time this season, with Williamstown claiming a thrilling five-point victory when the two sides met at IKON Park in Round 2.

Vice-Captain Cam Polson returns to the side this week after overcoming injury, providing an important boost for the Seagulls as they begin their finals campaign.

Williamstown will also welcome back David Cuningham, who returns after sustaining a brief hamstring injury following Round 19. Cuningham featured in the Round 2 win over Carlton, contributing 16 disposals and a goal to help the Seagulls secure the five-point victory.

Bailey Ryan will remain in the side after making his return against Frankston as a late change last week. The mid-season recruit produced a season-best performance, collecting 18 disposals and booting two goals to help Williamstown secure its place in the finals.

The Seagulls will be looking to make the most of the home-ground advantage and begin their finals campaign with a win in front of the Williamstown faithful.

Supporters are encouraged to pack DSV Stadium on Saturday and get behind the Seagulls as they launch their 2026 finals campaign.
