VFL Team Selection: Three changes, one VFL debut

July 28, 2025
Williamstown has made three changes to its Round 18 side travelling to Southport for a Saturday afternoon clash with the Sharks, with the first bounce at 12.05pm on Fankhauser Reserve.

It was announced to the playing group on Thursday evening that the Seagulls will welcome their fourth VFL debutant of the year.

Recruited to the Club ahead of the 2024 season, 22-year-old Luke Scicchitano has been edging closer to selection on the back of a consistent campaign with Deer Park in the EDFL.

A junior at Airport West, Scicchitano made his senior debut for Deer Park in 2021 and has gone on to become one of the Lion’s most dependable contributors.

He was named the club’s Most Courageous player last year and has again impressed in 2025, averaging 21.9 disposals and 100.9 ranking points across 13 rounds – earning best-on honours 10 times and slotting six goals.

Regularly recognised in our Seagulls Sightings at Local Level reports, Scicchitano has been playing alongside fellow Seagull Jack Noonan.

Used to running out in familiar colours at Deer Park, Scicchitano will wear No.36 when he makes his VFL debut for Williamstown.

Joining Scicchitano among this week’s inclusions are Tom Mundy and Oscar Sasalu.

Mundy returns to add some grit through the midfield after missing one game with illness, while Sasalu will play his fourth VFL game, with the tall utility capable of featuring both up forward and in the ruck.

Making way this week are Cameron Polson (unavailable), Jack McHale (injured), and Lucas Impey (omitted), with Impey listed as an emergency.

The Seagulls will be looking to bounce back after consecutive defeats in the last fortnight, following an eight-game winning streak.

Southport are coming off back-to-back wins against Brisbane and Richmond and currently sit third on the ladder.

Williamstown are eighth, and with just three rounds to play, every result carries extra weight.

After defeating the Sharks at home back in Round 6, the Seagulls will be out to prove they can get it done away from a home crowd.
