VFLW Team Selection: Cavanagh Confirms Stepnell’s Return for Round 2

April 24, 2025
Senior VFLW Coach Liam Cavanagh has confirmed 2024 Team of the Year recipient Lori Stepnell will play her first game of the season against North Melbourne Werribee on Anzac Day.

Williamstown will be bolstered by the return of Lori Stepnell for its Round 2 Anzac Day clash against reigning premiers North Melbourne Werribee.

Stepnell, who sat out the opening round, has been named to return to the line-up following a solid block of training and preparation.

The 2024 Rebel VFLW Team of the Year member played every game last season, finished fifth in the Club’s Best and Fairest, and was instrumental in the Seagulls’ push towards finals.

Her return means the Seagulls will be without defender Brittney Gray due to injury (ankle) in what is one of the most significant fixtures on the VFLW calendar.

Stepnell’s inclusion is expected to bring experience and polish to a Williamstown side that impressed in its Round 1 win over the Western Bulldogs at Whitten Oval.

All five first-year Seagulls who debuted last week have retained their spots, while the list of emergencies remains unchanged: Lightfoot, Marino, Guss and Bux.

With momentum on their side, the Seagulls will be looking to make a statement against the competition’s benchmark on Anzac Day.

The VFLW match will kick off a blockbuster double-header, with the VFL side to face Werribee at Avalon Airport Oval later that afternoon.

Match Details:

Friday, April 25th at 10.35am
Arden Street Oval, North Melbourne
