Williamstown 2025 VFL Leaders: Toner, Triffett, and McLaughlin round out leadership group

March 17, 2025
Following the news of Cameron Polson and Finn O’Dwyer being named Co-Captains for Williamstown in 2025, Jack Toner, Toby Triffett, and Brodie McLaughlin will join them to close out the five-man leadership team for the Seagulls this season.

Toner has been nominated Vice Captain, while Triffett and McLaughlin will act as deputy leaders for the year.

As three crucial players within the Seagulls side, they will add a level of depth and knowledge to the leadership group that can propel Williamstown up the VFL ladder.

With 55 games tallied over his four-year stint with Williamstown, Jack Toner will help lead the Seagulls in his first on-field leadership role.

As an inside midfielder who has spent some time up forward, Toner has cemented himself as a ball magnet with the ability to read the play better than most.

His knowledge and ability to break open a contest and drill the ball forward creates a natural on field presence that is difficult for defenders to slow down.

Having created such a strong relationship with his teammates, he was voted the Williamstown Players Player Award just last season.

Lined up alongside him in the midfield group is young star Toby Triffett, who joins the leadership team at only 22 years of age.

A recruit from the Brisbane Lions VFL side, Triffett enters his third season with Williamstown as a deputy leader.

A bull out of the middle, Triffett takes the game on headfirst, showing nothing but tenacity and fearlessness when attacking the footy.

He is an absolute work horse and his desire to win the ball on the field is what makes him a fearless trailblazer for his teammates, and a strong asset for the leadership group.

The final piece of the puzzle for the Williamstown leaders lies in the hands of tall forward Brodie McLaughlin.

As the target up front, McLaughlin is as reliable as they come on the footy field.

In just 18 games played in 2024, he managed to put away 49 majors and earn himself the leading goalkicker title for the Seagulls.

As a dependable member of the Williamstown Football Club, McLaughlin has put in the work and knows what it means to be a leader and a true teammate.

Hopefully he can have another outstanding year this year and help lead his side to a premiership in the process.

That makes up the five players who will lead the Williamstown Seagulls in 2025, spearheaded by Co-Captains Cam Polson and Finn O’Dwyer.

Round 1 is just under a week away, where Williamstown will face Essendon to kick off their 2025 campaign – Saturday March 22nd at NEC Hangar, Essendon.
