Williamstown entered the match unchanged, maintaining the same lineup as the previous three weeks.
Despite the chilly conditions, both teams played a highly contested match to begin.
The Seagulls surged the ball forward; however, they were unable to score.
However, the Williamstown defence was strong, denying Casey any meaningful looks inside 50.
With neither side able to break through, the teams headed into the first break locked at 0-0.
Unrelenting pressure from the Seagulls caused chaos for the Demons inside Williamstown’s forward 50.
A free kick from the ruck contest allowed Georgia Howes to hit the scoreboard first; however, her set shot only scored a point.
Constant pressure and one-on-one contests all over the ground allowed Howes to win a free kick for putting her head over the ball, converting the resulting 50-meter penalty to slot Williamstown’s first goal, seven minutes into the second quarter.
This sparked a strong surge from the Seagulls, with the ball locked inside Williamstown’s forward 50.
As the Demons attempted to exit the Seagulls’ forward 50, they were shut down relentlessly, and Neve Crowley intercepted an exiting kick before placing the ball top of the square, allowing Emily Eaves to finish a goal through the pack.
Driving the ball forward with intent and locking it in, the Demons were called for deliberate, allowing Teagan Brett a set shot from the pocket. Brett registers Williamstown’s third goal this quarter.
Williamstown took the 22-point lead into halftime.
A tight, contested game to start the third quarter, as the DSV stadium lights took full effect.
The Demons finally found a way forward, slotting a goal 14 minutes into the third.
End to end plays for both teams, however, Williamstown were unable to convert any goals this quarter.
Entering the fourth quarter, Williamstown remained their 22-point lead.
To begin the fourth, the Seagulls produced a brilliant end-to-end play, sparked by defender Naomi Ferres winning a two-on-one contest. Slick hands from Camryn Bux to Emily Eaves released Gaby De’Angelis who squeezed through her first goal of the season.
Continuing to surge, Megan Williamson kicks her second goal of the season to seal the match, running through the forward 50.
Shortly after, Camryn Bux kicks her first goal, crumbing the ball before cleanly before snapping it through.
As the rain continued to fall, Ruck Georgia Howes kicked her second goal, putting the clamps on the game, to lead Williamstown to the 42-point victory over the Demons.
Ultimately, Casey never held the lead at any stage, as Williamstown secured a commanding victory.
